BMW G 450 X fuel tank
For the purpose of participation in Dakar 2010, Dutch Dakar rider Frans Verhoeven and ex- BMW Motorrad dealer Bert Duursma have developed a 29 litre single fuel tank for the BMW G 450 X with integrated rearframe and fender. This new concept fueltank allows for realising a very compact, lightweight and competitive rally bike on the basis of the BMW G 450 X.
The realised tank has been successfully tested in Dakar 2010, the ultimate test!
The test results are:
- The fuel tank is vey resilient.
- The contents of 29 litres is sufficient in all stages (average fuel consumption approx. 8 L/100km)
- The balance of the motorcycle in both small and large jumps is perfect (Re: Frans Verhoeven)
- No problems have been encountered with warming-up of fuel. (eg petrol vapour lock). Many drivers were affected by this in 2010 Dakar.
- No problems have been encountered overheating of the rear shock.

The benefits of our single-tank compared to the muliti-tank solutions of the competition are ao:
- Low weight due to integrated functions of rearframe and fender (part)
- Mass of the tank close to the Centre of gravity of the motorcycle, provides a good balance and good agility.
- Due to the position of the tank relatively few front wheel pressure, which is an advantage in loose sand
- Integrated grab brackets on left and right side to raise the bike
- No additional fuel pump necessary, no additional fuel lines and taps, therefore, less likely to leaking
- Content about 29 litres, enough for the longest Dakar stages
- Material PE, this is extremely tough and resilient.
- Low level of warming-up. (Front tanks warm up tremendously by radiation from the engine block and warm air from the radiator)
- Motorcycle is very narrow of the front.
- Very good fit due to CAD design
